Having realized that the
orthodox teaching in schools in Nigeria is not equipping the students for the
workforce, the West Africa Vocational Education (WAVE) collaborated with the
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with a view to educating the 2018 batch C corps
members with the relevant workforce skills and how they would adopt the WAVE
training model in passing knowledge to the students.
This also aligns with
our mission saying “to level the playing field for underserved African youth by
building an ecosystem that supports relevant skills development.” The four-hour
training was themed Train the Trainer; it
was tailored around the problem solving, and verbal and non-verbal
communication in order to give corps member the requisite knowledge pertaining
employability and how the WAVE model would be effected in up-skilling the
secondary school students. It was an enterprising session, involving practical
and brainstorming activities so corps members can galvanize the rudiments of
problem-solving and communication skills.
