Mary heard about WAVE via a Facebook post in 2013. She had just returned home after the NYSC programme and was searching for a job. Excited at the prospect of working in the hospitality sector, Mary applied to the programme and was admitted afterwards. The most challenging part of the programme for Mary was interacting with other trainees. “Out of all the people I met at WAVE,I was familiar with only one person because I had met him some years before and I was free with him but it was difficult to interact with others and participate in all activities.” Mary completed the programme successfully.
Communication and managing expectations are two important skills she learnt during the programme because ‘it helps me interact more with colleagues and makes me more efficient.”
Mary got her first job with Chesney hotel as a kitchen assistant and after the expiration of her one-year agreement with WAVE, she got another job with Radisson Blu through the help of WAVE as a Food and Beverages supervisor.
