Godwin Bassey (Batch 15)
Employer – Eltees eatery
Role - Baker
Godwin heard about WAVE through an alumnus. Prior to WAVE, he was selling second-hand clothes popularly called ‘okrika’ particularly to labourers on site who intended to change old clothes. He applied to the programme because he needed a good and sustainable job. The most challenging part of the programme for Godwin was the number of assignments he had to deal with everyday. After the training, Godwin attended his first interview, secured the job and resumed work the following day. “The most important skills I learnt at WAVE that I apply on the job are team work, effective listening and asking questions. They always say we should ask clarifying questions if we do not understand.”
Godwin’s long-term goal is to “own a fast food restaurant and also do music because it makes me happy. "
His parting shot to the next WAVERs is “do not go for the money but look at what you can add to the place and most especially be accountable and sincere.”
Godwin moved from a being cleaner to becoming a baker.‪#‎waveacademies‬ www.waveacademies.org
