Adebayo Ogunniyi
Batch 017
Employer- Iyaoloja;Kuddy Cosmetics
Position- Warehouse manager
Adebayo heard about WAVE from Kelechi Ekezie, an alumnus. Before then he was a clearing and forwarding agent at Tincan Island in Apapa but left the job because of the fall of the naira against major currencies which began to affect the price of importation . He applied to WAVE after Kelechi assured him that he would get a job as long as he was ready to go through the training. In the last week of the programme,Adebayo job shadowed at The orchid Bistro restaurant in Ikeja where he learnt the do's and don'ts of setting a table and how to usher in customers. Adebayo got a job a week after the programme with Iyaoloja ;one of the largest beauty and fragrances online store - a subsidiary of Kuddy Cosmetics. Adebayo's major challenge during the programme was lack of finance;sometimes he would "task friends for feeding/transportation to hold myself." Also, he''lacked the confidence to speak publicly thereby contributing less.If I had the opportunity to come back, I will make sure I definitely contribute more .''
The most important skills Adebayo learned at WAVE which he applies on the job are time management;being punctual and teamwork;working hand in hand with his colleagues. Often times he would stand-in for his colleagues if the need arises and vice versa. "It strengthens the team as we always look out for one another. Also the 'scavenger's hunt' class was very helpful because we always use it in searching for items under one category."
Adebayo would like to own a boutique and a fashion store because he has a liking for footwears and jeans. During his spare time, he works as a printer;calls his supervisor to find out he has any job for him. Adebayo was promoted from a warehouse officer to a managerial position for his industry.
